crowdsandviruses.org has purchased the domain name of an organization that seeks to study the historical relationship between sociality, as an extra-human arrangement of beings, and notions of contagion — a transmission of sorts between these molar entities. The research group seeks to analyze the shift in audiences from the 20th century fear of masses to the mutated crowd-based-economy of value of the early 21st century, and how this process has renewed attention in spectatorship, its dispersal and forms of crowd intelligence, from plant behavior to swarm collectivities. This site stands in its place as a loose arrangement of matters, both research and works.
Mariana Silva (Lisbon, Portugal) is a visual artist living in New York, USA.
